Parading Buddha Images or Chak Phra Festival
Held in the provincial town of Surat Thani on the 8th day of the waning moon of the 11th lunar month, the locals place Buddha images on elaborately decorated boats or carriages to be paraded in overland or waterborne processions to give a chance for people along the way to make merits by placing offerings and money into the carriages and boats. There are also traditional forms of evening entertainment.

The Tradition of Receiving and Sending Ancestors
This is the most important tradition observed by Samui people. Like other Southerners, the locals believe that on the first day of the waning moon of the 11th lunar month (about October), the spirits of their ancestors are allowed to return to their families for a reunion until the 15th day of the waning moon in the same month.
According to the tradition, the locals make merits by presenting food offerings to Buddhist monks in order to dedicate the merits they obtain from this deed to their ancestors. Special kinds of desserts are also made on this occasion.
